Blogmas - December 12: Squeaky Clean!

It was dark by the time we got home so indoor artificial lighting will have to do!
So... uh, today my family and I went a little bit crazy over the $2.50 Bath and Body Works hand soap sale Deb was so kind to tell me about.

I woke up at 7 and made everyone some coffee. I figured we were going to leave fairly early for our shopping trip so I stayed downstairs and played some Diablo 3. I ended up eating some eggs while waiting, then Dad and my brother hopped on and we spent a fair amount of time playing.

By the time we left to go on post it was almost noon. It was a nightmare. The drive into the city was crowded, the stores were crowded, the lines were long, the cashiers were slow. It would normally really get to me, but I've been in a great mood all day and besides acknowledging that the traveling was a pain I was pretty carefree about the whole thing.
At the PX Mom and Dad bought me some winter boots for when I finally reunite with M, as that place gets very cold in the winter. We picked up some stuff for my brother as well.
We ate in the food court at a place called Gyros. They got the pita sandwich while I got the salad. The whole reason my Mom had wanted to eat there was because it was supposed to be a lighter food option. The meat was icky and greasy and I had about a third of my salad before I couldn't eat any more. We all ended up with upset stomachs and complained about the quality of the food. I don't know if it was just a bad day for the restaurant or what but it tasted... well, bad.
We hit up Bath and Body Works along the way home and went crazy over all of the soap. I think between the three of us we picked up something around 20 soaps? After that Mom picked up a Vanilla Bean Noel body cream to get us at the $50 mark for the $20 off $50 coupon and overall we spent $43. I picked up quite a few soaps for Deb. I felt like a detective stalking her blog trying to figure out what she liked and didn't like. So Deb, expect a little Christmas care package in the next week or so! :)
Along our way back we stopped off at the grocery store and I finally remembered to buy some goats milk. Yay!!! Expect me to either post about or just talk about making some goats milk soap tomorrow!
We got home around 3 or 4 and I had to take another nap, after doing some quick calculations and setting up some goats milk to freeze overnight. I'm not sure if it was the food or just general tiredness but I was feeling pretty sick. Surprisingly my nap only lasted about 40 minutes.
My brother wanted to play some Diablo 3 with Dad and I so I hopped on and tried to play. I still felt pretty bad, though, and it felt like sitting around was only making me feel worse so I asked Mom if she wanted to go to another B&BW location as well as a Target that was nearby so we could pick up some card decorating items.
Traffic was a lot nicer since it was dark out (it was a little before 7 when we left) and the stores weren't crowded at all. It was a nice contrast to the chaos from earlier. We ended up going to the Half Priced Bookstore, where Mom picked up a few books from a new to her author that she has been enjoying. I didn't see anything that caught my eye so I abstained.
After that we went to B&BW, where we found several fragrances of the hand soap that had not been available at the other store we'd gone to. We ended up picking up another 15 or so soaps...
I think over the past 4 days we've picked up somewhere around 45-50 hand soaps. Overkill? Naaaaaaah.
At the Target we had some trouble finding Christmasy decorations that would look good on a card. In the end we just grabbed some decorative tape and a few ribbons. While there we went to the Starbucks to pick up a coffee my sister had requested and I ended up picking up a peppermint mocha frappuccino for myself. I think the last time I had Starbucks was when a friend bought me some for my birthday in April. I do not have Starbucks very often, so when I do it's a nice treat.
We got home around 9:30 and I chitchatted with Mom and Dad about our plans with our colossal stash of soaps. Between all of this and the soaps I have made and continue to make, this will be a very clean family. I'm intrigued about this B&BW sale that I keep hearing about for next Saturday. I've yet to get any specifics on it but it sounds like it's a pretty big sale. I hope it's not just overhype. I'd love another excuse to shop, hehe.
So now I'm here finishing up this post and talking with M about his day. After I post this I will try and do a round of commenting and responding, but I may crash half way through. It's been a long day. I still feel leftover nausea from the food. I wonder if it was bad in that it gave me food poisoning, not just flavor-wise.

How often do you drink Starbucks? Do you think it's worth the price tag?

  1. I only seem to have Starbucks when my sister is in town and drags me there for a treat. I'm not a coffee drinker. It's gotta be so creamy and flavored that it's not really coffee anymore, before I can tolerate it. Oh wait, does the Starbucks cocoa mix under my tree count? That's an early Christmas present that I haven't opened yet. hehe

I'm getting soaps?! AND a handmade card?! Thank you!! I'm so excited now! I don't know if you're an anti-Walmart person or not, but they have some really cute Christmas stickers, ribbons, embellishments in their scrapbook supplies aisle. I wanted to buy some yesterday but I have no use for them.

And I'm anxious to hear about your goat milk soap too! I never did the freezer method. I just measured out what I needed when I started setting up to make my batch and set that in the freezer to cool while I melted oils, etc.. I've also used the actual milk, the condensed milk, and the powdered.

I'm curious about this big BBW sale coming up. Let me know if you hear any details. I've skipped the candles and the soaps, but dang I'm feeling like I need to go buy something! lol

    1. I drink coffee quite a bit, but I'm the same way as you. I always joke that my coffee is more like sugar and creamer that's coffee flavored.
I don't mind Walmart at all. I tend to go during low traffic times just to keep some of the weirdness at bay, but that was when I would shop at locations that had built themselves that reputation. Nowadays I'm able to find a lot of great Walmarts with employees that aren't rude! It's so awesome!
The first thing I did this morning was make some goats milk soap. It was a hot process Milk & Honey fragranced batch and I am loving it so far! I'm really excited to be able to unmold it and take pictures, even if I didn't color it at all!
The only milk I've used is the actual milk that I can just pick up from the grocery store. I'm considering using the powdered milk but I wanted to see if my new soap recipe worked with the kind of milk I'm more familiar with first.
I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything about this mysterious sale! All I know is there was a big sign at every cash register that said B&BW was opening early for their big sale on Saturday, December 19th.

    2. Oatmeal, Milk & Honey goat milk soap is my absolute favorite, and my sentimental favorite because it's the first kind I ever tried. I hope yours turned out! I used to make it with ground oatmeal, real honey, and the OMH fragrance. Mmmmmm!

    3. I loved how it turned out so far! I can't wait to cut it up in the morning and see how the goats milk held up in hot process soap! It smells absolutely divine!
I used ground oatmeal but no honey. I've never used honey in soap before. I really need to try it. It would make this soap that much more awesome!
