Blogmas - December 14: Packages, Packages!

Teaser for a haul post I'll do... eventually? :P
Today I didn't end up making soap, but I sure got some packages that I've been eagerly awaiting!!

I woke up at 7, even though I ended up staying up past 1 AM. I was tempted to stay in bed, but my mind was too restless with excitement about my Brambleberry package and I knew if I went back to sleep I would wake up later with a headache.
I spent a good several hours playing some Diablo with Dad while chitchatting with Mom about some soap. Around noon Mom got working on some food and Dad and I went to Home Depot to pick up some replacement bulbs for the kitchen. While there he picked up a drill bit set that he'd been needing. We went to the grocery store after that, and I think we kind of strayed from our list :)
Our list said tomatoes, onions, dried cranberries, coffee creamer, and eggnog. We also got cookie dough (which I will not be getting again; the cookies tasted amazing but they were so flat it was like eating wafers!), ice cream, various veggies and some ranch, sprinkles, and a huge jug of olive oil for my soapmaking.
When we got back to the house we found 5 packages from UPS at the gate. Only one was mine. The rest were Christmas presents for a couple family members. Dad bought Mom and him a Fitbit Charge a week or so ago. Mom told him afterwards that what she was interested in was a Charge HR, so he bought that one, too. He gave the extra Charge to me, so I spent some time familiarizing myself with the thing and getting it set up on my phone. Dad also somehow accidentally bought 20 internet cables instead of the 10 he originally meant to get so we could replace several cables that we've had since the 90's and early 2000's that frankly needed to be tossed.
After oogling over all of the packages we ate and I got hit with a huge wave of exhaustion. So I took a little 30 minute nap on the couch before continuing on with my day.
I really wanted to make soap but I had forgotten to weigh out any goats milk and freeze it, so I got started on that as soon as I remembered and semi-planned out a recipe I wanted to try. At that point USPS had finally come by and I got my Dessa's order!! Woooot! I tried to take pictures of both this and my Brambleberry haul, but the light was quickly fading and I barely got all of the tarts pictured before it was too dark to continue. I decided that I wanted to wait until I'd gotten a chance to photograph all of the new stuff I'd gotten before I used the new products to make soap. I plan to do a haul & review of Brambleberry as a company. I'm still not quite sure if I want to separate the haul and review or just do it all in one shot.
After having some leftovers for supper I baked the cookies we got at the grocery store and helped mom package up some of my soaps. She took some time to make pretty labels and print them on card stock so we could put that on the baggied up soaps. The soaps look so pretty now! Dad says I need to make even more soap because he wants a 3 year supply so he won't run out while I'm gone :). He finally saw my second soap batch from yesterday and said it looks like strawberry cheesecake.
After that we played some more Diablo 3 and my brother helped us (read: did everything) go through some very difficult high tier content. There was a lot of screaming and dying on Dad and I's parts, while my brother steamrolled over mobs like they were daisies. I'm beginning to get Diablo vision whenever I close my eyes. Kind of like Tetris Vision, only instead of shapes I see ridiculously stylized creatures flying in bloody bits across the screen. My, do I like my blood and gore @.@
There's a mirror right in front of the desk I work on my blog at and every time I look up I see my purple and blue bags that have formed under my eyes. I've always had some sort of bag -who doesn't?- but the past two nights they have been ridiculous. Since I'm doing all I can on sleep I just have to make sure I'm hydrated for now. Not that I really care about my looks. Who do I need to impress? :)

Alright, I'm going to do my round of commenting and responding and then lay down and watch soapy videos until I crash. That'll take all of 3.5 minutes :)

Are you looking forward to any packages in the mail?

  1. I've never frozen my goat milk and never had a problem. Honey, on the other hand, will heat your batch up like it's on fire. I had several batches ruined by honey.

Packages are good! I got four yesterday, and I've been told to expect two more on Thursday! Wheee!

    1. I had one bad batch with goats milk that completely scorched on me and ended up with an icky color and even worse smell and ever since then I've been paranoid about the milk scorching. I could probably get away with not freezing it now that I'm more careful but I like having that temperature cushion for if things go bad :)
That's what makes me so scared of using honey or other additives that have sugar. I'm afraid of doing it wrong and ruining a batch! I love how it turns out when done right, though!
