Band of Bloggers - Vol. 7/July 2016

Summer 2016 is officially here for all of us in the Northern Hemisphere! Longer days, abundant sunshine, warm weather and fun activities will hopefully keep us busy and happy during the months ahead.

This month the Band Of Bloggers will be sharing their favorite summer memory or tradition as well as the one scent or blend that we most associate with summertime.

So many memories come rushing in with the phrase "favorite summer memory." I have diary entries from 'super secret' spy missions I went on with my sister... spying on our brother while he played with his friends. We even had walkie talkies to communicate what we were seeing. How dare he play Dinosaur without us!! I remember playing video games and connecting with people across the world, growing up with them, many of which I'm still in contact with today. I remember while we lived in New York taking a trip every single summer to stay with my grandparents for a month in New Mexico. That month of each year was spent playing in the mountainous forests with the rest of the family, running through all 3 floors of the house, and the freshness to the air and life around us. I remember discovering M's love of disc golf and watching him flourish under the tutelage of our coworkers and friends, eventually getting two Aces before said tutors had even gotten their first. Really my favorite memories are moments that shaped who I am today and continue to shine through the years at my psyche.

One scent that I always associate with summertime is coconut, especially the kind most vendors use in wax. It reminds me of countless layers of sun screen applied to our skins while we were out in the back yard with our sprinkler, or at the pool with friends, or at the beach with family, or at any number of amusement park visits that splatter the pages of my childhood. Summer may not be my favorite season, but it definitely has some of my favorite memories. <3

  1. New Mexico sounds beautiful. I would love to see the Southwest. In fact I am painting Savanna a desert scene right now of her bearded dragon. Makes me wish I could be there to smell it. I imagine creosote. Have you ever met any of the people you grew up with online? I never had online friends until Adam and then again until the past few years from the wax blogs.

    1. It's such a gorgeous state. I saw your in progress pictures from Savanna's paintings and I'm super excited to see the finished product! It looks great so far :)
I've met one person that I grew up with online. We ended up going to the same middle school, so this was a looong time ago. We became really close friends and even though we haven't seen each other for a while, we're still in contact through Facebook.
It was weird for me, meeting and making friends in a non video game setting. It's so fun to meet people through common interests, though, and noticing similarities between interests. Who would've thought that one of my waxy friends (Deb) also plays Ultima Online, a very niche type MMORPG??

  2. It's funny you mention some of your favorite memories being from summer although summer is not your favorite season. I'm the same, now that I think about it. Maybe it's because there is just so much more to do in summer? I fondly remember country fairs, community picnics, playing kick the can all over our little town with the neighborhood kids late into the night....

In fall, my childhood memories slow down to raking and burning leaves, and the excitement of Halloween. lol

    1. I think you nailed it. There's so much more to do in summer, and school is usually out during summer months so if you have kids/are a kid you get more opportunities to go on vacations.

Hey, the excitement of Halloween was always fantastic! I also loved the excitement of seeing what new Shard of the Dead the devs would think up for UO. I liked some of the puzzle mazes and general madness that would occur on those shards.

  3. Those are lovely, beautiful memories! It must be really fun to read those all diary entries, all those feels must come rushing back! I hope you create beautiful new memories in the Korean summer as well! :)

    1. In between my tween angst and silly crushes there are some great memories hidden in my diaries. :) So far Korea has etched itself permanently into my heart. So much personal growth and we've done and learned so much about Korea and its history, language, and culture. Sometimes we can't believe it's already been half a year. :)
