Stop & Chat: July 1-5

Does the background for this picture seem a little... out of season? It should, because it was taken in December. LOL. I'm really wanting the weather to cool down, partially so the house isn't so unbearable and partially because I'm craving fall and winter scents. Bad Liz! The wax above is by Dessa's Homespun Scents and is her Lavender Vanilla scent.

I wasn't going to write about my weekend because I didn't take any pictures. After thinking about it, I realized that I'm absolutely silly for thinking such a thing. This blog isn't just to take you guys along with me, it's to document my time here in Korea - and documenting doesn't always mean take pictures! Not to mention my weekend was actually pretty jam-packed! So without further ado, here comes a wall of text for those of you who actually read my posts as opposed to just looking at pictures. =P I'm not offended if you prefer pictures, I used to be like that too!

Friday the 1st was an errand-doing kind of day. K had mentioned needing to get some contacts the day before and I named a place in Itaewon that I'd been meaning to try out, Italy Optical. We ended up making a date out of going to Itaewon and getting some adult stuff done. It's been over a year and a half since I've consistently worn contacts, and over three and a half years since I last got a prescription. To say that I needed new contacts would be a bit of an understatement. Friday was a rainy day. Not incredibly rainy, but rainy enough that Itaewon was pretty empty when we got there. The visit to Italy Optical was completely painless - I had my old prescription and my exam was based off of that prescription, making the entire process even faster than it already was. We were the only two people in the clinic. Once we got our prescriptions set up, we paid for our contacts and were told we had to come back after 3pm the next day. We decided to eat at a nice pizza/italian restaurant and ordered some pasta and a side caesar salad. The food was good, but I probably wouldn't go back.

The rest of my Friday was spent cleaning some more of the house. I have been spending pretty much all of my free time keeping the house clean and further cleaning/organizing what hasn't already been cleaned. My YouTube page is absolutely full of 'house cleaning routine' videos in the suggestions bar. It's that bad, you guys. If I'm not cleaning/hanging out with friends, I'm watching YouTube videos about other people cleaning their house. LOL

Saturday M and I spent the day hanging out with K and family. We went to Itaewon to pick up our contacts, then went shopping in Itaewon. It was nice being able to see everything, but my eyes were definitely strained by the time I got home. I have to keep reminding myself that as far as my body is concerned, this is its first time ever wearing contacts and I have to be patient and let my eyes readjust. I forgot what it was like to be able to feel the contacts in my eyes. Anyways, after walking around Itaewon and eating out at a Turkish restaurant (which was delicious, by the way - and we will be back!) we went to the Ipark mall in Yongsan and continued to shop there. While out we bought a ton of gifts for M to send home to his family. I also got a ring. Basically it's my new wedding band, but it also replaces one of the first pieces of jewelry M bought me while we were dating and broke a couple years back.

We got home from our outing at about 10pm and spent the night hanging out with K and her hubby. It was nice, but we were exhausted by the time we got home. My Sunday and Monday were spent catching up on sleep while kind of drifting through the day.

Tuesday wasn't so bad. I slept a lot more than I meant to and the house got really humid because it started storming outside while we were asleep. Since all of the house windows and doors were open, that humidity from the rain really messed with the inside and I've spent most of my day trying to bring down the house's humidity while keeping the house temperature low and the air from getting stagnant - all while not using the ACs because the last time we let ourselves use the AC without restraint our electricity bill was over 480k won, which works out to about $414. How about no? The only logical step from there was to completely restrict our AC usage. Moderation is something we do not do in this household. XD All I can say is monsoon season is no joke here in Korea.

Now I'm going to go to bed somewhere between 2 and 5 am and see where the rest of the week takes me. How has the Summer weather been in your corner of the world?

  1. Visions of snowflakes to help cool down your home! That is one seriously steep utility bill. I remember once my Mom and step-dad going bonkers over a $500 electricity bill, but FL has crazy heat too and they had a pool pump and three kids who never turned off lights or shut doors.

Glad you have been having fun and doing well. Enjoy your new contacts. Will you post a pic of your new ring? The weather here has been pretty hot. 92 but the "feels like" forecast is 104 on the news. We have had some nice summer storms, which I love.

    1. Electricity is no joke in Korea. I can only imagine how bad the electricity is for other larger families who are in the house more often than we were for that crazy month. We do like the house to be cold, though, so we held on to that cold temperature for perhaps a bit longer than we should have.

I will definitely post a pic of my new ring! I'm waiting for sunny weather to take a picture in.

It doesn't get that hot here. The highest I've seen is 90 degrees with low humidity so it didn't turn out too bad. Now that it's raining the temperature drops down to the 60s, which is ah-may-zing!
