Wax Rating System

Jan 2016 - Present

Scent Description: If possible, this will include the vendor's scent description of the product. Then I will include my own thoughts on the scent.

Date Poured/Received: This will only include the pour date if it's available. If that's not available, it will include the day I received the wax. I've decided to include this for those who are curious, and for my own records. I'm not quite sure how I stand on the whole 'curing' thing. It can't hurt to have this info, though. :)

Weight Melted: In ounces.

Location of Warmer: Since I'm upgrading to two or three warmers in the house I figured the location would be a nice thing to document. There will be four possible locations: Office, Guest Room, Living Room, Bedroom.

Cold Sniff: 1-5. Anything 3 or higher means I at least liked the scent.

Warm Sniff: 1-5. Again, anything 3 or higher means I at least liked the scent. I will also document any differences between the cold scent and warmed here.

Scent Strength: 1-3. How strong is this scent? Is it a background, light scent? An in-your-face scent? Or is it somewhere in between? Getting a 1 isn't necessarily bad; it just means the scent wasn't very heavy on the nose.

Scent Throw: 1-3. I'm easing up on my tart throw requirements because I'm expanding the number of warmers I use. My expectations are affected by the room the warmer is in.
1/3 Means that this tart was horrible. There was no throw. At no point over the course of melting did I smell the scent anywhere but with my face on top of the warmer.
2/3 Is a decent throw. It didn't completely fill the area I expected it to fill, but it got most of the job done.
3/3 Is perfect throw. This scent extended exactly as far as I wanted it to, filling the equivalent of two rooms.
>3/3 Means that this scent extended beyond where I expected it to.

Melting Power: 1-5 How long did the scent last while melting? I'm bringing down the range in hours that I expect from my tarts, as I'm really big on switching out my scents frequently. Variety, people!
0-2 hours is 1, 2-4 hours is 2, 4-6 hours is 3, 6-8 hours is 4, and anything over 8 hours is a 5. I'm aiming for a five in this category for expectations, but more often than not I will switch out the scent before I get to that point.

After each category has been rated I will do a little blurb on whether I would repurchase this tart/wax or not.

Jan - Dec 2015

Scent Description: If at all possible, this will have the vendor's scent description of the product. Then I'll include my own thoughts on the scent.

Weight Melted: In ounces.

Cold Sniff: 1-5. Anything 3 or higher means I at least liked the scent.

Warm Sniff: 1-5. Again, anything 3 or higher means I at least liked the scent.

Scent Strength: I've decided to keep this on a 1-3 scale, since there are really only 3 levels of strength (to me). This just rates how strong the scent is. Is it a background, light type scent, or is it an in-your-face obnoxious type scent? A 1 doesn't necessarily mean bad here; it just means that scent isn't very heavy on the nose.

Scent Throw: 1-5 I decided to extend the scale of this since I found most of my previous melts got a 2 on the previous scale even though they were still unimpressive. Since we're living in a one bedroom apartment, it's relatively easy to fulfill my throw needs. I still don't use more than one warmer, so I want my one tart to fill the entire apartment from one location.
1/5 means this tart sucked ass frankly. There was no throw whatsoever. 1 means I'm not buying the scent from the vendor again, because it sucks that horribly. At no point over the course of melting this tart did I ever smell it anywhere but 3 inches from the warmer.
2/5 means this tart filled the immediate area around the warmer extending no more than 3 or 4 feet from it. This is another horrible rating. This tart wouldn't even fill my bathroom if I put it in there.
3/5 The scent filled most of the kitchen and part of the living room. Decent enough, but it didn't extend very far.
4/5 This tart's scent extended to most of the apartment. It gets a 4 if it doesn't quite reach one or two areas of the apartment, such as the dining area or the bedroom.
5/5 Every room of the apartment was filled with this scent. I don't reasonably expect every single tart I buy to reach every room, as air currents/closed doors can affect how far it reaches, but a 5 is my 'holy grail'. It reaches all of my apartment.
>5/5 This tart extended beyond the doors of the apartment. To me this says I just need to melt less of the tart next time so I don't push my melts into other people's living areas. Since I live in an apartment complex I  need to think of other people and try to be considerate. This also means that this is an exceptionally strong tart and the same weight in wax will go further than other waxes. So overall, this is a fantastic rating.

Melting Power: 1-5 How long did the scent last while melting? 0-3 hours is 1, 3-6 hours is 2, 6-9 hours is 3, 9-24 hours is 4, and anything above 24 hours is a 5. I typically want a 4 in this category just because I grow bored of scents after melting them anything longer than 24 hours.

After this I'll do a little blurb on whether I'd repurchase this particular tart again. Really self explanatory.

Feb 2013 - Dec 2014

Each section will have a rating out of 3. Here's a breakdown of what I'm taking into consideration for each category.
Cold Sniff: 1 is a dislike. Based off cold sniff I would not repurchase this item and it is unappealing to me. 2 means I liked it. 3 means I loved this scent.
Warm Sniff: 1, again, is a dislike. I would not repurchase this item. 2 means I liked it, but it's not a repurchase. 2.5 is a repurchase. 3 means I love this scent and it smelled amazing.
Scent Strength: This just rates how strong the scent is. Is it a background, light type scent, or is it an in-your-face obnoxious type scent? A 1 doesn't necessarily mean bad here; it just means that scent isn't very heavy on the nose.
Scent Throw: For me, it'll be easy for vendors to fulfill my throw needs. I own a small efficiency, so the scent doesn't have to travel very far to be everywhere I would want to be inside. So a 1 means there was virtually no throw and I am giving up on this vendor that can't fill even a small 16x16 living/sleeping area. A 2/3 means this scent filled that 16x16 main living area, but couldn't make it through the archway to the kitchen nor to the bathroom adjacent to the kitchen. A 3/3 means my entire house was filled and I was a happy camper.
Melting Power: How long did the scent last while melting? 0-6 hours is 1 (what? I melt my tarts all the way to the end! I find 6 hours is nothing!), 6-12 hours is 2, and 12+ hours is a 3.

And repurchase is rather self explanatory. This is really for my own purposes to keep my ratings as even as possible across the board, so you can ignore this post if you so desire.
